What a budget actually is
A budget is not a punishment. It's you telling your money where to go before it disappears.
The simplest version: every dollar gets a job. Rent, food, gas, fun, savings — all assigned. If you don't assign it, Amazon and DoorDash will.
The 50/30/20 rule is a good starting point. 50% needs, 30% wants, 20% savings and debt payoff. If you can't hit it yet, that's fine — knowing the number is step one.
